SALSA MLPA KIT P083 CDH1
CDH1 or E-cadherin is a classical cadherin from the cadherin superfamily. The encoded protein is a calcium dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein. Reduced expression of E-cadherin is regarded as one of the main molecular events involved in dysfunction of the cell-cell adhesion system, triggering cancer invasion and metastasis. Loss of function is thought to contribute to progression in cancer by increasing proliferation, invasion, and/or metastasis. The ectodomain of this protein mediates bacterial adhesion to mammalian cells and the cytoplasmic domain is required for internalization.
This SALSA P083-A2 CDH1 MLPA kit is designed to detect deletions/duplications of one or more exons of the CDH1 gene. Heterozygote deletions of probe recognition sequences should give a 35-50% reduced relative peak area of the amplification product of that probe. However, mutations and/or polymorphisms very close to the probe ligation site may also result in a reduced relative peak area. Therefore, apparent deletions detected by a single probe always require confirmation by other methods. We have no information on what percentage of defects in these genes is caused by deletions/duplications of complete exons. Please note that most defects in this gene are expected to be small (point) mutations, most of which will not be detected by this MLPA test.
